Shana in Egypt

12:30 pm Sunday
Family and friends...

I have just talked with Shana. She called at 1:30 am and said they were being evacuated and she would call when they had more news. She just said that it has been a roller coaster these past 11 hours. She said they had them ready to go and gathered and then evidently the US Ambassador over there said it was not a danger zone, so the offer to take everyone off was taken away. They were told that they could try to drive to Cairo to the airport, but were told they could only go 2 at a time, drive like crazy and run anyone over who tried to stop them. Shana said the small villages outside the base are not very stable, and no one choose that option. She said the engineers (who are Egyptian), who ran the power system and water system on the base have been fired, and they don’t know why. She said they have enough reserves to last about 7 or 8 days. She said if they cut off the water it will be shorter than that. She also said they have a bunker on their compound, and and alarm system that goes off if they need to go there and hang until developments change. She sounds calm, and her (and her husband’s) heart are going out to the Egyptian people in general. As far as Moudy knows, his parents are safe in Alexandria and his family is safe in Cairo. They are staying inside as the streets remain unstable and chaotic.

Please continue your prayers and thoughts toward their families and I will let you know if anything further develops.

Cheryl
